Hey Folks--tonight was my first night running tech and everything started off fine but finished less well.  Not sure if it was user error or equipment failure, but here's what happened:

For the showing of the Host, I ran the thank you reel on DCP in theater 2, and then started The Host.  It played fine in the booth but only the sound came through in theater 2.  I restarted, ejected, pushed buttons here, tried the scaler, etc, but nothing got it to go on.  I did notice that at the end of the thank you reel, it went into auto shut-off mode (why is this?), and I canceled the shut off before trying to run the movie.  Maybe that was it.

In any case, we got nothing via the booth, and I went down to tell the roughly 30 people that we could either 1) refund their money, 2) beer them up in the lobby, or 3) play the film on my little projector.  They chose the latter and all stayed, patiently waiting to get things set up and then applauded when the film finally ran.  Really nice crowd.  We did give them free beer.

Would like to know what happened, and obviously running this on DCP would have made things hopefully smoother.

Somewhere along the way, Sugar Man also came to a standstill, though this may have been caused by all of my poking and prodding.  Since I was working on theater 2, Dom was able to check in with the audience, see where the movie should have been, and get that back on track.  It came back on track without sound but the Aux-Blu Ray switch seemed to solve things.

All in all, pretty stressful, but it could have been worse.

Welcome to the Tech Blog

This is a blog for NPT Techs to be able to share any highlights and lowlights with other techs on duty.  Please complete each night, even if it's just a short sentence to say no problems with anything.
